The Oklahoma Wildlife Federation an autonomous statewide organization working within Oklahoma for wildlife and habitat conservation. OWF is the state affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation, supporting its mission and goals where they affect Oklahoma.

Save the Illinois River, Inc. STIR, was organized by Tahlequah citizens in response to plans by Fayetteville, Arkansas to dump half its sewage into the Illinois River basin. The federal lawsuit went to the United States Supreme Court which, in a precedent-setting opinion, ruled that upstream states must meet the water quality standards of downstream states. STIR is the only private, non-profit organization chartered exclusively for the preservation of the Illinois River, Flint Creek, Baron Fork Creek and Tenkiller Lake.
