Save the Illinois River, Inc. STIR, was organized by Tahlequah citizens in response to plans by Fayetteville, Arkansas to dump half its sewage into the Illinois River basin. The federal lawsuit went to the United States Supreme Court which, in a precedent-setting opinion, ruled that upstream states must meet the water quality standards of downstream states. STIR is the only private, non-profit organization chartered exclusively for the preservation of the Illinois River, Flint Creek, Baron Fork Creek and Tenkiller Lake. |

Community and
Environmental Defense Services Our mission is to help people defend
their community and environment from the impact of poorly planned land
development activities. These activities may include housing projects,
shopping centers, highways, landfills, mining, and so on. We can help you
identify and document how the project may impact your interests. We can then
help you get the volunteers, funds, facts, political clout, and professional
services needed to ensure that the project is not built until all impacts are
resolved |
